“Mixed Martial Arts” is defined as any professional competitive sports competition between various fighting disciplines, including the utilization of permitted martial arts, wrestling, boxing, and grappling techniques.
Currently, New York State Bill 2165-B is pending in legislation. If passed, this bill would amend Chapter 912 of the laws of 1920 relating to the regulation of boxing, sparring and wrestling; thereby establishing protocols for combative sports and authorizing mixed martial arts events in this state of New York. Additionally, 2165-B would provide for the collection of taxes from any person or organization that holds such an event within the state.
Do you agree or disagree with authorizing mixed martial arts events in New York State?

Looks like the California State Athletic Commission suspended the license of suspected PED user and UFC superstar Chael Sonnen, after a failed drug test prior to his epic battle with UFC Middleweight Champion Anderson Silva at UFC 117. After the initial drug screening failure, a second test was ordered which confirmed that Sonnen had a high testosterone-to-estrogen (T/E) level. High T/E levels can be indicative of the use of anabolic steroids. Sonnen, who intends to appeal his suspension within the allowable 30 day limit was suspended by the CSAC for one year.
MMA fans, the UFC and the entire MMA community were hoping for a better explanation for Chael Sonnen’s positive drug test prior to his UFC 117 fight against Anderson Silva. While we haven’t received any explanation from Sonnen, we can assume one is shortly forthcoming. In the mean time, this new information from California State Athletic Commission Executive Director George Dodd helps ease steroid accusations on the UFC middleweight contender. While steroids are not the only PED, they currently have the most negative connotation in sports. If Sonnen is suspended from fighting in the UFC; in light of this new information, perhaps his suspension will not carry the full penalty of 1 year with no Octagon action. We will have to wait and see.
I hope for the sake of the sport that there is another explanation coming from Sonnen’s camp.
Late last night, WEC lightweight contender Donald Cerrone made a comment directed towards Jamie Varner @jamievarner during a TapouT Radio interview that sounded strikingly similar to a comment former UFC Champion Frank Mir @thefrankmir made about current UFC Champion Brock Lesnar some time after he lost their second fight. After Mir’s comment, UFC President Dana White @danawhite told the media that he stepped in and addressed the situation. Read Mir/White’s comments from the first incident bellow followed by Cerrone’s from the latest incident.
February 2010
Frank Mir “I want to fight Lesnar. I hate who he is as a person, I want to break his neck in the ring, I want him to be the first person that dies due to Octagon-related injuries. That’s what’s going through my mind.”
Dana White ”He’s been talked to, he regrets what he said, and he won’t be saying anything like that again.”
September 13, 2010 live on Tapout Radio
Donald Cerrone ”I hope (Jamie) Varner is the 1st MMA death.”
